Mike Song and Tony Tran OZ visit

MIKE SONG AND TONY TRAN DOWN UNDER

During the month of August Mike Song and Tony Tran graced us with there presence down under. They held work shops in Sydney’s famous dance school Dance 2 Music, Dance Generation and ever so famous Dance Kool. These two unique dancers taught the people of Sydney Mike’s robotic choreography and Tony’s sharp movements. All students where in awe to have these two dancers as a teacher and requested for several solo performances which was granted and no one left disappointed but rather in amazement.

The next stop was Melbourne, where they continued to amaze us with their skills in the dance studio at Melbourne Music Academy. There the Melbournians strived to impress our international guests when attempting the special colabo choreography between the two Kaba members. With the most requested routine being taught in Melbourne, Mike’s “Nintendo Wii” chore-o all students aimed to “KILL” it. Whilst Tony’s Rock Steady quick and intricate routine stunned our dancers.

I would like to thank all of the dancers in both Sydney and Melbourne in attending there workshops and made there stay welcoming. A massive shout out to Phreac Ent., Nu-Lite Ent., M.V.P Ent., NOJON Ent., Tragic Glory, Global Gambit and most of all Mike Song and Tony Tran who made all this possible.

Mike Song and Tony Tran you are an inspiration to all dancers here DOWN-UNDER and we thank you for sharing your experiences and talent with us. We hope you had an awesome and unforgettable time in the land DOWN UNDER.

I hope you stay in OZ was "EPIC"

PEACE

HIP HOP

Hip Hop what is it? How did it start? What do you think when some one says “ I LOVE HIP HOP”. RAP, DJ’s, Breakers and dancers? Hip Hop is not a genre or music style but rather a way to express your self and a life style.

For many, Hip-Hop is an outlet, a paradise that makes you feel in control. Control of the time at hand whether it is writing rhythms, spinning decks or even jamming to your favourite beats, but the main misconception of hip hop is what it is about. Through out time the media portrayed Hip Hop as a music genre which is associated with rap, however that is not the case. The great Grand Master Flash is the perfect example of this by playing “Smells like teen spirit” by Nirvana in his recent performance in Melbourne. He incorporated all music genre and still called it Hip Hop.

This way of life has now evolved into something in which people can create a future for themselves doing something they love. Hip Hop does not convey its daily influences in society, not the whole loose clothing and slang, but rather the actions of the individuals involved who love this culture to help it them and the culture advance in the future

The main reason for its birth is it is a way for an individual to express themselves without the fear of being criticized. Where it stops is infinite and knows no limits Art, Music, Graffiti, Dance, Rock and the list goes on.

Even writing this piece is a way of self expression because I am trying to show the world that Hip Hop is here in AUS and will forever stay. Do not judge so quickly and think you know because most of the time you don’t. The true essence of hip Hop is self expression and being open minded and having respect for the individuals self expression. We are proud that we love Hip Hop because it brings some sort of happiness for us in our lives. Give it the respect that is needed so we are all able to cultivate the essence of Hip Hop.

Interview with DJ REV

On my way to interview Revelino a.k.a DJ – REV, I give him a call because I can hear kids yelling and here I was very surprised because I thought,” Did he have kids?” I thought to myself.
SR “Hey bro I am infront of house number?, (secret) white picket fence yeah ?“
REV “No dude, ABORT MISSION, GET DA F**K OUTTA THERE”
SR “OH SNAP”
So I rushed outta the front yard like lighting
REV “It’s the bricked apartments”
SR “Oh ok man”
As I walk I see this tall dark figure in the shadows waiting, first thought was” Man I better get ready, in case I get jumped”, but the closer I got the shadow figured became more clearer and realised it was DJ- REV. The exchange of informal greetings and catch up and then it was down to business.
We sit and chill out in the comfort of his private sanctuary, his bedroom. With a surprise I see a rack of sneakers to my left, another row of sneakers under his bed and other shoes scattered through out the room, various caps neatly piled and hung, loads of DVD’s and music all over the room.
SR “What’s up Mang?”
REV “Chilling”
SR “So Rev I’m sure people ask you this heaps BUT what is your background?”
REV “I was born in Malaysia, I am Half Chinese, a quarter Indian and a quarter Malay”
SR “Damn, people must get you confused heaps as an islander or that nationalities ey? “
REV “Yeah man, when they see me it’s like “Ey bro, what’s up?” inside I’m like yeah, BUT when they ask what nationality I am all there interests are lost Hahahaha, and then they walk off hahaha
SR “yeah it’s like a girl thinking you are young and then they find out you are OLD, they loose interest INSTANTLY LOL”
REV “So True”
SR “So bro why did u start DJ-ing and how long have you been doing it for?”
REV “Well I have been doing it for now for 11 years, I started playing in Malaysia first and then came down to AUS to start a career. Basically my family are all music orientated, every one can play at least one instrument, I studied in Malaysia which had a twinning program with Cambridge College and did my GCSE O’ levels (equivalent of year 12) after that with my passion of music in my head and heart I did my Advanced Diploma in Audio Engineering, Did my Bachelors in Recording Arts then also pursued my love for food and studied Certificate III in commercial Cookery and finally finished it all of with an Advanced Diploma in Hospitality Management”
SR “That is diversity, so we all know you are a mad DJ, what other mad skills have you got ?”
REV “Hmmm, well I play guitar and have been doing that for about 12 years now, again I can cook and French and Italian trained. I can also produce and record tracks and came in second place in a Foosball Tournament in Malaysia”
SR “ I think I will marry you cause of your mad skills with music and food my two loves of my life lol”
REV “hahahaha that’s what gets all the ladies”
SR “So can you sing as well?”
REV “A lil’ bit”
SR “All good bro, since you can do so much who would you want to collaborate with?”
REV “I would definitely collaborate with Pharell, Timbaland and Quincy Jones I think they all have there own unique styles which everyone knows when they hear there music, I have also worked with Israel and done a remix for the Cash Boyz and had the honours of working with Richard lusk, who produced tracks for The Beatles at the age of 18, in making a live recording of a Jazz piece at his studio in 301 studios in Sydney as well as having worked at Abby Road studios in London”
SR “That is some experiences, I also heard you just came back from Asia, where did you go and do you go often? “
REV “Yeah man I just came back from my Malaysia and Singapore tour I usually go often but when they decide to fly me over hahaha, I played at several clubs over there like, Zouk, Maison, Envie and Mimollette in Singapore, I played in a lot of other places but you can check it all out on my Facebook pages just look up DJ Rev”
SR “Yeah true that that would be awesome if some one flew me around LOL “
REV “I feel privilege when they fly me over”
SR “Since you travel heaps what place is the most memorable for you and why? “
REV “Most memorable place for me would be Zouk club, it was like about 3 years ago and I played in front of about 2500 + people and the atmosphere was crazy, being able to control people with just music, which is something that just does not happen too often with hip hop music, it basically ONLY happens in raves hahaha, it was a great feeling, knowing you have control of so many people”
SR” I know what u mean music play a big role in all our lives, I LOVE IT ! So you planing to travel any time soon?“
REV “I’ll tell you a story; I was Dj-ing at some club and met some one who had a strong accent and asked if I had a mint, I was like No. Then he kept bugging me the entire night asking the same question until I realised he was asking if I had a minute, hahaha. He then took me outside and he had 3 of this other friends come surround me and I was thinking WTF? He then asked if I wanted to come to China to DJ, so currently it’s pending as well as my Hong Kong tour until everything gets sorted out.
SR” That is hilarious can I come as well hahaha, Ok here is the best question EVER, if you were a fruit what would it be and why? “
REV “Hmmm, well I would choose a strawberry, because this is the only fruit which has it’s seeds outside and nothing is hidden inside, that is like me what you see is what you get I keep it real, I don’t like fakers and posers”
SR ”That’s awesome; it’s true though I like people to keep it real as well. I’ll just assume I can not come lol many thanks bro and we shall party it up soon, thanks heaps and EVERY ONE get ready for the sounds of DJ REV to blow your mind”
REV ”HELL YEAH“

Australian Hip Hop Champioship with Taeko "KoiFysh" Carroll and Yuri Tag

During the end of May an annual event called Australian Hip Hop Championship is held by UEG. This is a battle of the best dance crews from all over Australia to compete for the title of the best Hip Hop dance crew.

Every year a new set of international guests are invited to judge this fierce yet friendly competition. This year Yuri Tag from Kaba Modern and Taeko “ Koifysh” Carroll from Fysh n Chicks, who’s crews competed in the US dance show Americas Best Dance crew, where brought down with the help of Nu- Lite entertainment.

The lifestyle of dance in comparison to the US is far greater in comparison to ours but our unique ability to take it to a new level made judging this competition hard for our international guests.

The venue was held at “The Palms “in Crown casino, making the acoustic and seating arrangement extremely comfortable whilst listening to Dj REV spinning the decks during intermission. The energy of the crowd was like that of the Olympic Games, enormous roars, continuous cheering for there favourite teams which created a encouraging atmosphere for all our dancers. In the end only one crew would seize the title as “Austalias best dance crew” and here are the results as follows

Under age 16+
1) Urban Force Juniors
2) Kstar
Open age
1) DVP
2) J-Town
3) Beatphonik
With our friends from the US down to help judge, UEG could not help but organise a dance workshop so we were able to learn from the best and expand our knowledge and “LIVE” in the dance, as stated by Taeko in her intermediate/advance class.

Taekos’ and Yuri’s classes have there own unique styles which allowed all dancers to learn new theories and concepts of musicality in there “Chore- O”. The vibrant and encouraging energy from these two dancers gave us all a great experience when attempting “TO KILL“there choreography on hand, even if we failed. This is something that we as dancers need “ENCOURAGEMENT”. The 2 days of intense work shop held at Melbourne Music Academy was an experience never to be forgotten. If ever these ladies are in your town I strongly encourage you to participate as it is an experience you will not regret or ever forget.

To Taeko and Yuri in conjunction with Nu-lite entertainment, I think I speak for all the dancers in Melbourne who participated in your workshops and met you, that we all enjoyed ourselves and that you can call Australia a home away from home if you ever come back. Mad love to our new US mates and we hope to see you both back for some more aussie tucka ( aussie food ). Mad love goes out to you both.

All about the Nu-Lite Entertainment

SR :So what made you start Nu-lite?
Dennis :
Well.. Nu-Lite Entertainment, started due to a few reasons,
1. I was very intrigued by the clubbing and entertainment world, I love the scence minus the bs that comes with it like fights and other types of drama, but other then that I love it.
2. With my clothing line "Tragic Glory Clothing", we were recognizing that we have a following in Toronto, so we decided to use that following and build a base around it, pull everyone in, so we created Nu-Lite Entertainment. Nu-Lite is a spin-off of Tragic Glory Clothing, after you over come your Tragedy, you Glorify life with a Nu-Lite. It sounds pretty cheezy but thats what it is.
3. Nu-Lite has became something more then just a company to me, my vision of Nu-Lite from the beginning is a close group of friends and family (because we all do work close with each other), was to help each other grow and our industry grow. That's why we try to hook up with dancers all over the world because we want to help out the dance scene where it is needed, which is pretty much everywhere other then LA lol I don't mean to diss anyone or any place, I'm sure each city has talent but... it just seems like you have to go to LA to become a professional, well I want to open that up a little, why cant you come to Toronto and be trained, why not dance with the best in Melbourne? you know? I hope that answers why I started Nu-Lite lol haha check out www.nuliteent.com

Sr: Do you have some sort of motto within your crew ?

Dennis : We don't really have a mottoe but everyone that works with Nu-Lite, we stress the importance of honesty, with the entertainment business, it can get very, umm....competitive and not everyone is the nicest or honest person around but Nu-Lite Entertainment and its employees all strive in an honest image. So maybe we can go with "Honesty is the best policy" lol hahaha check out www.nuliteent.com

Sr:What is you most fav thing about Nu lite ?

Dennis :
Wow, to be honest lol, no one has asked me this question before. There is so many things about Nu-Lite that I enjoy, hmmm.. number 1: I love the opportunities Nu-Lite has given me and my whole team, For example, promoting Tragic Glory worldwide, traveling around the world, meeting great new friends, and of course working with the best in the entertainment industry like Kaba Modern, Beast Mode, SoRealCru, DJ Hustle Lin, DJ Ritz, and the list goes on. Check out www.nuliteent.com

Sr: For all the people who don’t know please run us through the things that Nu-lite Ent actually does and how long has Nu Lite been going for ?

Dennis:
Nu-Lite has been around only for just over a year officially, we are a registered and trademarked company, but a few of us have been doing the promoting thing for about 2 years. Its been hard, lol standing outside in minus 30 degrees, snowing and telling people to come to our club. lol

Nu-Lite has weekly night club events, right now we are at Frequency Night Club in Toronto on Fridays. The club holds capacity 2000 people, we have line up of star DJ's and always have some crazy themed parties. We also do occasional dance workshops with our friends from LA and Toronto. We also do video production, you can search us up youtube, NuliteENT. We do a few more things but Ill let everyone find out, its more fun that way. Also check out www.nuliteent.com lol

Sr: So u came down to AUS and hung out with some aussies, how much different is it from Canada, excluding the crap weather?

Dennis :
Well, everyone is much more laid back, everyone in Toronto is in a hurry, we are always worried about how much time we are consuming. In Melbourne, everyone was taking it easy lol which I loved, it was nice to slow down for a week and take in the scenery. The scenery is definitely different and Melbourne was beautiful. Food was also real good.

Sr:What did u expect when u came to AUS about the hip hop scene in comparison to Canda and also did u expect us to be on kangaroos and have pet koalas ?

Dennis :
Haha I did not expect you guys to be going to work and parking your kangaroos, though if it was possible, I would be soo down lol I did however thought and heard that Koalas would be pretty much every where, hanging off trees and all that, I will never trust that persons word again lol

I didn't know what to expect from the hiphop scene in Australia, I came with an open mind, the clothing is a bit different, lol because you guys don't carry Tragic Glory Clothing but we will fix that lol I would love to be in the hip hop movement in Melbourne or in Australia in general, because I feel that hip hop there is on the edge and about to blow up, I love that feeling when hip hop is appreciated for what it is and not ruined by the hate and non sense. Hiphop is not a fad, it's a culture.

Sr: AMEN to the last statement bro, i think people think it is a fad and that is something we are going to change lol, well do you plan to come back ?

Dennis :
At the moment I don't have any plans to come back but I WOULD LOVE TO COME BACK !!! lol I hope you guys invite me back, that would be awesome. UEG and FREAK ENT...GET AT ME, or anyone willing to bring me back hahaha GET AT ME lol I still need to try kangaroo meat, and I love y'all lol

Sr:Do you have any future plans for Nu lite or is that a secret ?

Dennis :
Well, Nu-Lite has a lot of plans, some I can tell, some I cant. lol I am working on a Dance Company called Global Dance Collective, which I am working with a few people from the tv show " America's Best Dance Crew". It will feature choreographers from LA and Toronto for now, with the intentions to speard worldwide. Australia, also get ready to go come to Canada for some competitions, Ill fill globalgambit in when I get the infos.

Thanks for the interview, I love Australia, Burn city especially. Shout outs to Global Gambits..oh yah Check out www.nuliteent.com lol thanks

Sr:

Welcome to Global Gambits

Hey to all,

Many thanks for taking the time to visit Global Gambit

I am going to invest in a lot of time in creating this blog as a way for the Hip Hop community to keep updated about the world of dance and underground scene, so we are able to expose people who are interested to learn more about our world.

Also underground clothing brands will be available here, such Tragic Glory from Canada, and many other up and coming brands will also be featured.

All our underground talent have a hard time in getting work or having exposure in the scene and hopefully this website can help them gain that exposure.

Therefore this blog will consist of many things that incorporate Hip Hop and in collaboration with Nu-lite entertainment hoping to expand globally and maybe one day have our own website if all goes successful.

It is going to take a lot of time so all your support in spreading the word would be appreciated.

Any suggestion will be kindly appreciated and feel free to leave any comments

Keep your eyes open and get ready for world domination of HIP HOP

PEACE
